Randall Knives

Randall Knives

Few names in American bladesmithing carry the weight, history, or sheer mystique of Randall Made Knives. For nearly nine decades, this Orlando, Florida-based workshop has defied modern manufacturing trends. While other legacy brands transitioned to assembly lines, computer numerical control (CNC) machining, and offshore factories, Randall stayed small, sticking to a labor-intensive 17-step hand-forging process.

The result? An iconic American tool, a fiercely loyal collector market, and a factory backorder backlog that spans several years.

Anatomy of a Randall: Materials and Steel

The heart of every Randall knife lies in its steel. The workshop primarily utilizes two variations:

  • O1 High Carbon Tool Steel: A legendary Swedish tool steel known for its exceptional edge retention and ease of sharpening in the field. Carbon steel blades develop a beautiful, dark patina over time but require light maintenance to prevent rust.

  • 440B Stainless Steel: Designated with an “S” stamp on the blade, this stainless option offers superior corrosion resistance, making it the preferred choice for saltwater use or humid environments.

Handles are equally customizable, ranging from classic stacked leather and durable canvas Micarta to premium natural materials like stag horn, desert ironwood, and walnut.
